Opening Reception: Undying Yearning

  • Delta Arts Center 2611 New Walkertown Road Winston-Salem, North Carolina, 27101 United States (map)

Join us for the opening reception of the Undying Yearning exhibition! This free event is Friday, October 16 at the Delta Arts Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Starting at 6:30 p.m., guests will see portraiture, short films, and sculpture that explore the legacy of "Katie B." and the "Big Four." There will also be a live performance!

Undying Yearning peers into the past of Winston-Salem to understand how the two-time "All-America City" produced Black institutions that thrived. There was a nurturing that took place within these spaces, a wholeness that supported individuals' mental and physical well-being alongside their academics.

This exhibition invites viewers to explore the spirit and intergenerational camaraderie of Kate Bitting Reynolds Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and the four Black high schools operating in Forsyth County during the Civil Rights era: Anderson, Atkins, Carver, and Paisley.

Featured artists include Johnny Lee Chapman, III, Alexandria P. Clay, Sauda Mitchell, Anthony Otto Nelson, Jr., and Anthony Patterson. The Delta Arts Center is located at 2611 New Walkertown Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.

To help us get an accurate headcount, please RSVP for this reception. We look forward to seeing you!

The exhibition is in partnership with the Delta Arts Center and is part of a series of programs called Black On Black @ Ten, commemorating the Black On Black Project’s ten years of storytelling across North Carolina.
