Virginia A. Wiseman

Virginia A. Wiseman, The Yellow Jacket, 1958

Virginia A. Wiseman (1923-2015) was part of the "precedent-setting experiment" in Forsyth County during her time at Carver Consolidated School. A native of North Wilkesboro, Wiseman had a "love for the French language" and studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. She also earned an undergraduate degree from Shaw University and a master's from Columbia. In addition to teaching French, she was also a guidance counselor at Carver. Ray Agnew, Jr., a star athlete at Carver who played in the NFL, said Wiseman was a "great guidance counselor" and one of his "favorite people in the world." Being an educator was part of the Wiseman household: her husband Hoyt. A. Wiseman, whom she married in 1954, was a longtime educator in the county including as a principal.
