Former instructor
Former Kate Bitting Reynolds Memorial Hospital School of Nursing instructor Carol P. Henry followed in the footsteps of those before her by encouraging students to be their best, according to the scores of alumni who spoke about her at the 2025 Katie B. reunion in Winston-Salem. Henry, who arrived at Katie B. in 1966, came from Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. It would be her first teaching role. During the reunion, Henry said she "learned just as much from the students as they did from me."
A graduate of Winston-Salem State University, Henry taught at Katie B. until 1971 when the nursing program was phased out. She said she'll never forget her time teaching at the nursing school, calling it "one of the most important eras of her career." Describing it as her "foundation," she attributes any success she amassed to Katie B. "That's where I started," she said, "and your foundation is always going to follow you."
