Virginia native Peggy H. Hairston described what Kate Bitting Reynolds Memorial Hospital School of Nursing meant to her in one word: "Everything." That included, she said, meeting "the love of her life" while attending Katie B. and eventually marrying him. Additionally, Hairston said the school prepared her for her time as a member of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. The ANC was established in 1901 as a permanent corps within the U.S. Army Medical Department.
