Born in the small town of Garysburg, North Carolina in Northampton County, Corinne C. Gibson would see the public health nurses come to her grade school and admire their outfits. They wore "the most beautiful dress[es]," she said, and she knew that's the profession she wanted to work toward. Being accepted to train at Kate Bitting Reynolds Memorial Hospital School of Nursing was a "dream come true."
Gibson moved to Portsmouth, Virginia after graduation and began searching for a job. She said one thing that assisted in the job hunt was the reputation of the school and the nurses it produced. After working in the field more than 50 years, Gibson said that being at "Katie B." was truly "a blessing." During the 37th reunion in 2024, she said it "felt good to be back with so many [former classmates] and reminisce about that time."
